Product Review: 2010 Macbook Pro

As you may know, I recently bought my first Macbook Pro a few weeks ago. I have now had plenty of time to learn how to use it, change all the settings the way I like it, and get everything transferred over from my old laptop. I thought it would be a good idea to give a review for those of you who may be considering making the move to a Mac for the first time.

I made the move to a Mac for a few reasons. One was I really need a new laptop. My previous laptop is 3 years old and I desperately needed something way more up to date, something that is more suitable for my needs. Another is because Macs are basically the norm in the graphic and web design world, and as a lover of technology, to be honest I couldn’t be out of the loop. But don’t worry you PC fans, I still have my good old desktop, which I believe is about 5.5 years old now. I also wanted a Mac just to try something different! It doesn’t hurt that they are completely and totally gorgeous as well, which brings me to…

Welcome to my online portfolio!

Thanks for stopping by! I’m finally able to release my website to the world. It has been down for a long time and I spent a lot of time on it – especially when I lost some work and had to spend a couple hours putting content back in. I’ve learned from that mistake, big time. I went with a clean, fresh look for my website, and it’s my first time using WordPress and a working with a child theme (off of Thematic). I really enjoyed the experience, and I’m looking forward to using it a lot more, and getting to know it as a CMS!!

Anyways, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to comment below or contact me directly!

Bears is (mostly) complete!

Bears Matter was finished today, with a completed user manual and a final presentation to the class. Reiko sent copies to Emma and I for feedback on the user manual, and yesterday I created screen shots for the Store portion as I did not do that on Saturday. The manual is 42 pages! Which may seem like a lot, but the screen shots take up quite a bit of room, and the Store has a lot to cover, especially with adding new products. However, you probably can’t have a user manual that is too big.

The Store is still not up, and though Bears is done, we will be waiting to hear from our client to open up the Store when it is all good to go on the product supplier’s end. It’s something out of our hands and we simply just have to wait! Otherwise, the client has already been using the site, and is very pleased with it. I think we all learned a lot, I know I did, and it was a great experience!

More Delays

I have completed the Store portion of the User Manual, spending almost 4hrs on it. I covered the basic editing of the store (for example, adding/deleting/editing text), as well as deleting and adding new products. I also included some instructions for Mal’s E-Commerce – to view order history, change contact information, email notifications, and edit taxes and shipping. Everything in the Mal’s account is set up properly for the client, so she shouldn’t have to go in there very often at all. The shipping prices were also confirmed by Warm Buddy.

The client also emailed early last week to give us a heads up on the Store. Though she is still working on getting the banking information sorted out, the supplier of the products she will be selling, Warm Buddy, is withholding shipping on products right now due to something that has come up on their side. I emailed the client, and she told me she wants to wait to open the Store until the supplier has it all sorted out. So we will most likely not have the Store open for awhile yet still.

Those other classes…

I thought I should just give a quick update on my other two classes…

Digi 405: The PHP is coming along well and so is the website. Today we discussed the chapter on user accounts, sessions, etc. which is great because I’m getting to the point where I need to start working on that, and the information from today will really help. :-)

Digi 320: I’ve finally started my final CSS term project for this class. I’m creating a website for my parents’ business. So I met with them just over a week ago to go over what they wanted (I’m so busy I actually said “we need to have a meeting!”… how sad is that?!), and last Friday I began building. My parents are pretty easy-going on what it should look like. They have some ideas but don’t really have TONS of specifics, which is kind of good in a way because it means I can have a bit of fun with it. I have the home page done, except for the real content, and so far they like it. I also created a new logo for them that is on the website, and will go on their business card.
